What is arthritis?
Arthritis is a disease that causes painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints.
what happens when you break a bone? how does it heal?
A bone will break when there is to much or too sudden pressure put upon it. There are different names for all of the types of breaks possible but it can be anything from a thin break in to bone to the bone being completely snapped in two. Just a few hours after the break, young tissue cells begin to appear, this is the first step in repairing the fracture. These cells multiply quickly and become filled with calcium. Within 72 to 96 hours after the break, these cells form a tissue which unites the ends of the bones. More calcium is deposited in this newly formed tissue, which eventually helps form hard bone, developing into normal bone over a period of months. A plaster cast is usually applied to the broken limb in order not to move the bone and keep the edges in perfect alignment
what happens when you injure a muscle? how does it heal?
You can pull a muscle by overstretching it, not warming up properly before exercise, excessive exercise or fast, uncomfortable movement. When this happens the muscle is overstretched and the fibers tear. When a muscle is torn, satellite cells (stem cells) are activated and fuse together to form myoblasts which then fuse into myotubes. These mature into muscle fiber that is incorporated into the existing fiber. Protein helps to thicken the fibers.
